A drawing of the fire station submitted to Broadway Parish Council, by Gill Brothers of Bourton-on-the-Hill in 1899, showing their proposal for a bell tower. The bell was needed as a means to call out the firemen. Although there were alternative methods available at the time for calling out the crew, such as electric house bells, a hand operated bell on the station was considered the most practical. This is discussed further in the chapter entitled 'Equipment'.
